SAFETY RULES AND REGULATIONS

General Range Safety Rules

Always keep firearms pointed in a safe direction.

Always keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot.

Always be sure of your target and what is behind it.

Don’t rely on your gun’s “safety.” Treat every gun as though it can fire at any time. The “safety” on any gun is a mechanical device which, like any such device, can become inoperable at the worst possible time. The safety serves as a supplement to proper gun handling, but cannot possibly serve as a substitute for common sense.

Learn the mechanical and handling characteristics of the firearm you are using before you take the firearm to the range.

Be sure you are using the correct ammunition for your firearm.

Always were proper ear and eye protection. Protective eyewear and noise reduction devices have industry ratings certifying they meet certain levels of protection.  Make sure your eyewear and hearing protection meet or exceed these standards of protection.

Always keep your gun unloaded until you are at the firing line and the range is declared “HOT.” Unloaded means magazines removed, chambers empty and actions opened.

All firearms must remain holstered or in a case until you are at the firing line.

Cease Firing: Immediately stop shooting when anyone calls “Cease firing.”

COLD Range: Shooters must check with others to ensure firearms are unloaded, actions open and firearms laid down on the shooting bench before going down range. When going down range, stay on the walkways to and from the targets. Access to the backstop and all areas outside of the target lines and walkways is prohibited. No one is permitted to handle firearms or stand at the firing line while there is a “COLD” range.

HOT Range: Shooters must check with others to ensure there is no one down range; when the range is declared “HOT” shooters are permitted to commence firing. Only shooters are permitted on the firing line. Shooters may move firearms to and from the firing line only when the range is “HOT.”

All shooters are responsible for their rounds staying within the confines of the range. Shooters may shoot only from the firing line or designated area at the target in line with their position.

If you experience a misfire or failure to fire, keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction (down range). Keep your face and other body parts away from the breech. Then, carefully open the action, unload the firearm and dispose of the cartridge in a safe way.

No smoking on the range.  Smoking is only permitted in designated areas.

No eating or drinking while on the range.

Any level of intoxication from alcohol or drugs is strictly prohibited while on the range.

Any person who conducts him/herself in an unsafe manner or violates any rules will be subject to immediate expulsion from the facility and revocation of his/her membership.
